10 ‘NO’s in Dog Feeding

We always want our dog to have a good health, a long and happy life. There are so many things we could contribute in achieving that goal. Dog food is the most important that focus on. Have you ever wonder what if we are feeding our dog the wrong food in long term, it could harm them and worst case our pet could die young. It often happens but don’t worry you just need to know how to feed your dogs right.

Here are several things that you need to know about feeding your dogs :

1. Supplements are “okay”, only if….

If your dog has passive physical activity ( sleep too much , rarely taken out for a walk ), or simply undergoing a stressful routine change. But giving too much supplement is not good for your dog, you have to give it in proper proportion. If you don’t know how, it may cause temperament problem (because of kidney disorder)

2. No Bone anymore..!

Our dog has different type of digestion. They have short digestive tracts. A small bone eaten by dogs could cause them to choke, they have no amylase (an enzyme that is use to predigest starch).

3. No more raw eggs..!

If you feed them with raw eggs regularly, you will make their skin breakout. In dog’s body, there are biotin that are useful for dog skin health, but the problem is raw eggs destroys the biotin, and the result could lead to hair lost.

4. No more raw fish..!

Raw fish can cause weaken your dog stamina, can cause an abnormal posture and even death in several cases.

5. Meat protein diets to vegetable protein diets.

Meat protein are easily be found in beefm pork, chicken turkey and others. Vegetable protein diets are much better than the meat protein diets because it is easily digest by dog and it gives off more energy to the dogs.

6. Keep watch their fat

The right proportion of fats, will result a good skin. But too much fat, will have a bad effect in kidney, reproductive health, obesity and lethargy.

7. Make sure they get enough carbohydrates

A balance diet program is good. Make sure they get carbohydrates for their energy. Corn is one of the best source of carbohydrates.

8. Don’t feeding your dog too regularly.

That can get him into the routine of expecting to eat at those times. and could lead to weight gain. Letting him get hungry and feeding sensibly.

9. Don’t give your dog a chocolate or any kind of high fat diet or junk food. That’s not healthy for dog.

Give what best for your dog.

Dog show competitions are increasingly popular and are enjoyed by lots of dog owners around the world. The dog shows are a great way to show off one’s prized pet. Show dog training requires your dog to not only become very obedient but also to stay calm during the probing of a judge while his confirmation is being examined. While the judge examines your dog he must remain relaxed and keep the correct pose throughout the examination.

There are several different categories that the show dogs will fall into, so they can compete with dogs having similar characteristics. The categories are divided up based on the types of activities each breed is most skilled at. The seven different categories include sporting, non-sporting, hound, terrier, working, herding and toy. Besides have a terrific confirmations, the dog must be able to impress the judges with their obedience skills. Dogs will have to show off their stuff, whether it is a working dog running an obstacle course, or a herding dog working some livestock. For sporting dogs, the test will check out their abilities as field dogs. You can find dog show competitions for many different types of dogs and their associated skills. Dog agility competitions are another fun thing to train your dog for-if he is really athletic, that is.

Check this list out to see where your dog fits in.

Sporting Dogs – These types of dogs were originally bred for hunting and retrieving game birds-either on land or in the water. Included in the sporting group are retrievers, Spaniels, Pointer and Setters.

Hound Dogs – The hound class specializes in hunting through either sight or scent. Among the various hound breeds are beagles, dachshunds, greyhounds and bassets, to name a few.

Working Dogs – Working dogs are the breeds of dogs originally bred for guarding property, search and rescue or even pulling a cart. The working group includes such breeds as Doberman Pinschers, Boxers, Akitas and St. Bernard dogs.

Terrier Dogs-Terriers were bred to be specialists in eliminating vermin from farms. The Terrier group includes dogs such as the Airedale, Cairn Terrier and Scottish Terrier, Jack Russell Terriers and many more.

Toy Breeds – Toy breeds are miniature dogs-the result of breeding down the size to make little household companion dogs. In addition to many other little breeds, the Toy group includes dogs like Poodles, Pomeranians, Maltese, and Pugs.

Non-Sporting Dogs – In the non-sporting group there is a pretty diverse group of breeds, that mainly have become companion dogs, and includes dogs like Standard Poodles, Chows, Dalmatians and Bulldogs.

Herding Dogs – Herding dogs were bred to help control livestock, and include breeds like German shepherd dogs, Collies, and various kinds of Sheepdogs.

You can train your dog to enter the dog show in his group if you are interested, and he is well trained enough. For those interested in entering their dogs in a dog show competition, you should check in with a local Kennel Club to learn more. By joining a kennel club near you, you can meet and network with other show dog handlers to get some good advice getting started with show dog training for your dog.

For example, if your dog is a working dog, you can talk with an owner who also has a dog in the same group as your dog, and find out what you’ll need to learn to prepare your dog for the competition. By watching and learning from a more experienced dog handler, familiar with dog show competitions, you will quickly learn the right way to perform the show dog training your dog needs to compete.

Before you consider show dog competitions, be sure you have already given your dog his obedience training. If you haven’t already fully obedience trained your dog, of course you will need to concentrate on that before even thinking about entering a contest.

5 Outstanding Types of Dog Food

A couple of years back, it was very simple to feed your dog. But today it is quite difficult considering the nutrition they require. There were days when my dad’s dog used to eat what was cooked for everybody at home, even the apple cobbler. Apart from eating the leftover food lying on the table, he even used to loving having the mercenary dog food. Until his mid teenage he lived a jolly good life, without getting any kind of disease.

Even getting the dog food from pet stores was easy in the earlier days. As there were not many brands of pet food to select from and moreover, the ingredients would be the same only with a different pack, taste and colour.

But in today’s modern world, you have a wide range of varieties to select from. Given below is a list of the popular pet food that is available in the market for your dogs:

Vegetarian

If you are a vegetarian and would like your dog also to be one, then you just don’t have to worry, as there is a lot of vegetarian dog food available at the pet stores. These vegetarian foods also contain all the necessary nutrients that a dog requires. This food is the best for dogs that have an aversion towards meat.

Green dog food

In the earlier days the dogs and wolves just ate raw food to sustain, and they were very healthy. Most of the owners preferred to give raw dog food. You cannot prove this belief wrong as there any hard no core scientific facts. But, there are a lot of chances that raw dog food will guide you towards dangerous bacteria like the E.coli and the Salmonella.

Therapeutic food

In the recent past, the therapeutic food is becoming very popular. This type of food is not easily available in the market, but you will have to buy them from your vetenaranian, as this food is most of the time prescribed to dogs with health problems like allergies, or sometimes given to dogs that have undergone surgeries.

Natural dog food

Most of the dog foods which are made today have a certain percentage of bad chemicals and pesticides in them. So to make sure, you do not give your dog this kind of dangerous food, it is better you give them the organic dog food. However, before you buy the dog food, just don’t go by the name “Organic” but carefully read the ingredients.

Dog food without preservatives

Actually several commercial dog foods contain conservatives in them like the ethoxyqion, BHA and BHT which are present as artificial chemicals. The main purpose of adding these chemicals to the food is to keep the food away from getting spoilt and to retain its taste and flavour. There are foods for dogs which have natural conservatives in them like the ascorbic acid which is nothing but vitamin C and the tocopherols in other words Vitamin E.

So while you buy your dog food the next time, ensure you are getting the one which has a natural conservative. You can find this out very easily by reading the ingredients given on the food.

The last but the most important point is the dog food you buy should be properly sealed and stored in a cool and clean place so that the food remains fresh and nutritional.

What Are Dog Grooming Tools

Why you prefer to go to professional dog groomers and pay high fees for your dog grooming. You can even groom your dog at home , yes really You can do much of the grooming yourself at home and save money at the same time.

This article will let you know all necessary tools that you need for your dog grooming at home.

Dog grooming Hair scissors

Thinning scissors

Dog clippers

Dog/cat toe nail clippers

Dog Nose scissors

Dental scaler

Dog hair pulling forceps

Dog Tweezers

Brush and Comb

Dog grooming scissors:

It is the most important tools for dog grooming. Dog grooming scissors are usually long blade scissors having 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5″ sizes. Scissors are both straight as well as curved. Common size is 8.5″. Available in mirror polished, satin and titanium coated finish. These days titanium coated shears are very common because these are not only beautiful, but these shears have long lasting sharpness. Curved shears let you cut corners – literally. They are real time-savers. And, considering that most scissoring is supposed to achieve round or curved surfaces, it seems only natural to use curved shears on dogs ranging from Bichons to Bouviers. Gain experience with these shears by rounding off feet, topknots and tails. Experiment with them in reverse to create angulation above the hock joint. You might even use them to create the arch on some Terriers’ eyebrows. Many groomers who have had difficulty shaping round and curved edges seem to have more success when they are using curved shears. Now come to Filipino shears, these scissors have wider blade than other grooming scissors. These are excellent for cutting bulk hairs. These scissors feature superb smoothness and sharpness.

Thinning scissors:

If your dog has very thick coat of hairs we recommend you to use thinning scissors. Thinning scissors are choice of groomers in hot weather because thinning scissors thin out the heavy coats of hairs giving dogs a cool feel. Thinning shears, in various lengths and styles, constitute “the shears of the ’90s” – and they are a necessary part of any groomer’s collection. Thinning shears with a 28-teeth blade (or finer) are excellent for finish work and blending. They give coats a soft-edged appearance and produce Schnauzer and Terrier furnishings that look natural. Used to thin over scissor Lhasas and similar breeds with silky, flowing coats, these shears blend in and remove blunt ends. Thinning shears give breeds such as Scotties and Westies a hand-stripped look. They also give trimmed ears and bangs a natural, smooth appearance. They even thin out heavy coats and help to prevent matting in breeds such as Cockers, Afghans, etc,

Nose scissors:

Yes nose is also very important to be cleaned while grooming your dog. Use good pair of nose scissors to remove longer hairs from nose of dogs. These scissors has blunt end, so they won’t disturb your dogs. Don’t use pointed scissors for removing nose hairs.

Brush and Comb

You need to brush and comb away the dead hairs before bathing your pet as water creates tight matts in the loose hairs. Pets with long coat require brushing almost daily, depending on the condition of its coat. If you exercise your dog in the garden, it is likely to get tangles in its hair. You need to comb out its tangles immediately after exercise to avoid the tangles becoming mats. Brush your pet from top to bottom. Use the right brush for your pet’s coat. Get advice from the pet shop if you’re unsure.

Dog clippers

Purchase a set of professional dog clippers. Hair clippers for humans will not stand up to the rigors of dog grooming and should not be used. A good set of clippers can cost up to $200.00. Although the initial expense is large, the clippers will pay for themselves quickly. Make sure the animal is completely dry before using the clippers. If you wish to give your dogs specialty cuts like a poodle or a cocker cut, you should follow the directions that come with the clippers. You can also get books that have diagrams on giving special cuts. The clippers come with attachments that cut hair to the desired length for whatever effect you are trying to achieve.

Dog toe nail clippers

Dog nail clippers have 3 shapes. Guillontoin style used for removing and trimming toe nails of medium size and larger breeds. Scissors style clipper is usually used for cat nails. Plier style dog nail clippers are used to trim nails of smaller dogs. Plier style is more common among professional groomers. Care should be exercised with the toe nail clippers as if you cut the nails too short you will nick the vein that runs part way down the nail.

Dog hair pulling forceps and tweezers:

Hair pullers are fundamental tools for good grooming. Allow groomers to remove excess hair from the ear canal and reduce the risk of infections. Also used for removing ticks from pet hairs. Forceps come in curved and straight blades, having locked and unlocked handles. Forceps with polyethylene dipping handles are more commonly used these days because of firm grip and easy working.

Dental scaler

Yes dogs have also plaque problems. You can use Dental scalar, for removing plaque and cleaning teeth of pets. If you are unable to see plaque, then can use dental mirror as well.

You can touch up the grooming every two or three weeks. That way, the general grooming will not be as time consuming as it could be. Depending on how quickly your dog’s hair grows, you will need to groom him every month and a half to two months, or more frequently.

Groom your pet well and enjoy its good looks and companionship!

Dog Food Allergie’s Test

Does your dog suffer from skin problems and/or scratch constantly? Does he have hot spots or recurring skin infections? He may suffer from dog food allergies. Food allergies can appear in dogs any time in their lifespan, from puppyhood to senior. There are certain food ingredients that tend to be problematic. Among them are dairy products, chicken and chicken eggs, soy, corn, wheat, and even beef.

Conduct a Food Trial

To diagnose your dog’s potential food allergies you can conduct a food trial, which means feeding your dog a unique diet for up to 3 months. You will need to feed your dog new foods it has never eaten before, such as venison and oats. Lamb and rice diets used to be prescribed for dogs with potential allergies, but they are no longer considered unique foods. Many commercial lamb and rice dog foods also contain soy, eggs and other allergens.

Special foods are available through your vet or you can make your dog’s special diet at home using your vet’s recommendations. The special diet must be followed consistently, no other foods allowed including treats or rawhides. Continue with the diet until you see marked improvement in your dog’s symptoms. Then go back to his regular diet. If symptoms return, then you know your dog is allergic to one or more ingredients in his regular food.

Food Allergy Treatment

Once you have confirmed your dog has a food allergy, you will need to continue with the special diet. If you are not sure which ingredient of the old food is causing the allergy, you could try a homemade diet and add back in one of the potential allergens, such as soy. Until you narrow down the exact foods your dog is a allergic to. Then you can either keep your dog on the special diet or try a commercial dog food that does not contain the problem ingredients.

Because symptoms can be similar with airborne allergies such as dust and mole as well as flea-bite allergies, it is important to test and eliminate them as suspects first.

Commericial Dog Food is Non Regulated and Contains Poisons That Can Kill Your Dog

I’ve worked at a vet’s office and asked one of the one’s I really trusted, what they would recommend for my new dog. He said “None” of the commercially produced ones. When I asked why, he said it was because there are no quality standards for pet food.

There could be variations between one batch and another. One lot could cause diarrhoea, another dull coat, intermittent vomiting or skin problems. Since you change what batches you feed your dog over time, you will never know what caused the problem.

You would be shocked what goes into dog food.

Products unfit for human consumption are put into dog food. That includes rendered pets. Yes, euthanized and animals that die from disease are rendered into products that end up in your dog food. Supporters of this practice say that the product is sterilized so that no diseases are transmitted. When you read pet-food labels and it says meat or bone meal, that’s what it is — cooked and converted animals, including some dogs and cats. Even worse than the thought of our dogs becoming cannibals is the process that the flesh goes through to become bone meal. This meat and bone must be treated with toxic chemicals to render it to product.

Since many of the condemned animals are euthanized, dog food contains sodium Pentabarbital. There is also heavy metal contamination such as lead from our environment. While food for human consumption must meet strict standards, dog food does not.

So think long and hard before you feed your dog that food from the supermarket that is labelled healthy dog food. It probably is not.

Chemical and Preservative Free‘ Labeling a Lie. Experts Expose Truth..

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and author, Henry Pasternak, rips back the veil of lies about dog food labeling..

“Many pet foods advertised as “preservative-free” do, in fact, contain preservatives.

..manufacturers don’t have to list preservatives that they themselves did not add.

Many preservatives make their way into pet food at rendering plants before the meat is even sent to the manufacturer. An analysis of several pet foods labeled “chemical free” or “all natural ingredients” found synthetic antioxidants in all samples.”

===============================

Henry Pasternak also reveals..

“Although you won’t see it on the label, since it is often added at the rendering plant and not by the manufacturer, ethoxyquin (EQ) is used to preserve most dry pet food.

EQ is the most powerful of all preservatives and may be the most toxic.

The use of EQ is … permitted in pet food.

…factory workers exposed to it exhibited side effects similar to those of agent orange:

  • a dramatic rise in liver or kidney damage,
  • cancerous skin lesions,
  • hair loss,
  • blindness,
  • leukemia,
  • fetal abnormalities, and
  • chronic diarrhea.

In animals, EQ has been linked to:

  • immune deficiency syndrome;
  • spleen, stomach, and liver cancers;
  • and a host of allergies.”

=========================

Best-selling pet care author, Ann N. Martin, reveals why foods labeled as ‘chemical and preservative free’ are actually chock-full of deadly poisons…

“Before these animal parts and by-product used for pet food are shipped from the slaughterhouse to the rendering plant, the by-product is “denatured.”

This means that crude carbolic acid, cresylic disinfectant, or citronella, is sprayed on the product.”

“After Only 1-Month of Following Your Advice, My
Dog Already Looks & Behaves 5-Years Younger!”

Crackers actually looks younger after only 1 month of Justin follwing our advice!

If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I wouldn’t believe it! My dog actually looks younger, it’s amazing.

He’s also got much more pep.

He slowed down somewhat in the last few years and I put it down to approaching old age, but since I started feeding him the way you teach, he’s had a new burst of life!

Once again he’s running instead of walking, alert instead of sleeping… it’s like having the young-guy back again, I love it.

Pretty sure he’s rather pleased as well!

Thanks heaps Andrew,

Homemade Dog Food Basics

More and more people are beginning to make their dog’s food at home rather than buying commercial formulas. Homemade dog food doesn’t contain any substances that could possibly be harmful to your dog’s health such as artificial coloring and artificial flavors.

Another reason to make homemade dog food is the preservatives added to the commercial dog food. Homemade dog food has the benefit of optimum freshness without preservatives.

There are dogs that would greatly benefit from a homemade diet. Some dogs who suffer from allergies that cause severe itching may find relief once switched from commercial dog food to a homemade diet.

Processed dog food is a relatively new product and scientists don’t fully understand the differences between commercial food and a diet of fresh food. There may be problems occurring in a dog’s health because he is being given food that has had the nutrients cooked out of it and then sprayed back on.

It’s also possible that the extremely high heat used to produce commercial dog food may alter the protein structure in the meats used. It’s not proven whether such protein alteration negatively affects a dog’s health, and since dogs seem to maintain their regular health during regulated feeding trials most people feel that commercial food is good enough to maintain their dog’s health.

What if you want more than to give your dog a food that is “good enough”. There are many recipes you can use. There are ebooks available with a variety of recipes that will provide your dog a well-rounded diet full of nutrition and every vitamin and mineral he needs.

There are certain foods you want to avoid, such as fatty meats, cured meat, (sausage, bacon, hot dogs), any fried foods and raw pork. You also want to avoid any milk, cream, ice cream, pastries, white bread, sugary foods, grapes, raisins and onions. Also, keep in mind that anything you consider to be junk food would not be good for your dog.

Healthy foods to give your dog would include raw or cooked lean cuts of meat: beef, poultry, lamb, whitefish and fatty fish (like salmon). Also included in a healthy diet are cooked grains, eggs (raw or cooked), finely chopped or ground raw vegetables (remember, no onions), and bits of fruit (again, remember to give your dog no raisons or grapes).

These are just the basics. There are books on the subject that provide great recipes and a full list of good foods and foods to stay away from.

A basic formula for a homemade diet would be 50 percent protein, 25 percent vegetables (ground so they are easy to digest), and 25 percent grain (such as rice and oatmeal). Add to that some supplements of certain vitamins, minerals, and oils rich in omega-3 for healthy skin and coat.

There are some pets that do not do well on a homemade diet so be sure to check with your vet before making any changes to your dog’s diet. After making the change, pay attention to how your dog responds. Not all dogs thrive on a homemade diet.

Some dogs may have trouble adjusting and others might not like the food or suffer from temporary digestive upset. Slowly changing the dog’s diet, gradually giving more of the homemade food and less of the commercial, can help alleviate stomach upset.

If you have the time it takes to prepare your dog’s food, or feel very strongly about providing your dog with the best diet possible, a diet of homemade food can’t be beat.

Dog Grooming – Keep Your Dog Healthy and Active

Dog grooming has its own significance in pet care. It not only improves the look of your pet, but also provides it with better health.

All things such as brushing, bathing, and cleaning of the ears need to be carried out regularly, and by doing so, you can keep your pet healthy.

It is important that you brush your pet every day to keep your pet’s hair dirt free. It also spreads natural oil, which in turn prevents tangling of hair and keeps the skin clean and irritation free. If you make grooming a routine, then your pet will eventually begin to enjoy it.

Another important part of your pet that needs cleaning is the nails. It is important that you trim the nails of your pet once a month. Always use a clipper that is specifically designed for the type of pet you have.

To cut the nails, make your pet sit beside you. Next, place one of your pet’s paws in your hand, and then trim the nails gently. Trim carefully, making sure you stop before the quick, which contains nerves and blood vessels. If the quick does get harmed, then use a moist cotton ball with clotting powder and press it for a few minutes to stop the bleeding.

You also need to always keep your pet’s ears clean. Unclean ears may result in infection, which is not only painful but can also cause hearing loss. Infection can be identified by recognizing signs such as redness, scratching, head shaking and odor.

You should check your pet’s ears twice a month. The skin of the ears must be pale pink in color. If you notice a foul odor or change in color, take your pet to a veterinarian.

Use moist cotton balls with lukewarm water or mineral oil to clean the ears.

Cleaning of your pet’s teeth is another important aspect of grooming. Your pet may get cavities in his or her teeth that can develop into periodontal disease. Clean your pet’s teeth twice a week with a soft, small pet toothbrush.

Bathe your pet at least once a month or as required. In order to remove all the matting from your pet’s coat, brush your pet before and after each bath.

Place a rubber mat or a small towel in a bathtub so that it is not slippery for your pet. Use cotton balls to prevent water from going into your pet’s ears, and use warm water to bathe your pet in. You can use a spray nozzle, but be sure that you keep the nozzle close to your pet’s body when spraying, and do not spray your pet in the face.

Use shampoo that is made specifically for pets. Use a small quantity, and wash from head to the tail. Clean the rectum, between the toes, backside of the ears and under the chin. After washing, rinse your pet thoroughly with warm water, and then dry with a drier, or pat dry with a towel.

It is important that you regularly give proper attention towards the grooming of your pet. It will keep your pet healthy and active, both physically and psychologically.
